Overview

This is a non-standard combination of the oral or systemic antibiotic doxycycline and the topical skin protectant ointment Aquaphor. Doxycycline is a tetracycline-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, used for treating various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, acne, Lyme disease, and others. Aquaphor is an over-the-counter topical ointment composed primarily of petrolatum (petroleum jelly), mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol; it acts as a skin protectant and moisturizer but has no direct antimicrobial activity. There are no known fixed-dose pharmaceutical products combining these two agents; if used together in clinical practice (for example in dermatology), they would be applied separately—doxycycline systemically or orally for infection/inflammation control and Aquaphor topically for barrier protection or wound healing support[6][7][3].
