Overview

ACAC Therapy is an investigational triple antibiotic combination therapy consisting of doxycycline, azithromycin, and rifabutin, developed by Cadrock Pty. Ltd. for the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD). The therapy is based on the hypothesis, championed by Professor Thomas Borody, that coronary artery disease (CAD) is driven by chronic intracellular infection and subsequent inflammation caused by the pathogen *Chlamydophila pneumoniae*. By utilizing a combination of antibiotics with different mechanisms of action, the therapy aims to eradicate the bacterial infection within the arterial walls, thereby reducing inflammation and plaque progression. ACAC Therapy has been evaluated in a Phase IIa clinical trial to assess its safety and efficacy in patients with CHD who have not responded to standard treatments.
