doxycycline + berberine

This investigational combination therapy consists of the tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline hydrochloride and the isoquinoline alkaloid berberine hydrochloride. It is being evaluated by The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine for the treatment of chronic endometritis (CE) in women of childbearing age. Doxycycline acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Berberine hydrochloride, a plant-derived alkaloid, provides complementary antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, potentially enhancing the clearance of intrauterine pathogens and reducing endometrial inflammation. The therapy is administered orally as a 14-day course, with the primary goal of achieving a negative CD138 immunohistochemistry status, indicating the resolution of chronic endometritis.
