doxycycline + sitagliptin

This combination therapy consists of the tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline and the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor sitagliptin. It is currently being investigated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT06329882) sponsored by Mostafa Bahaa for the treatment of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus. Doxycycline, traditionally used as an antibiotic, is being explored for its potential effects on glycemic control and cardiac indices, possibly through its anti-inflammatory properties or inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Sitagliptin is an established oral antihyperglycemic agent that increases insulin secretion and decreases glucagon levels by preventing the breakdown of incretin hormones. The study aims to determine if the addition of doxycycline to a standard 100mg dose of sitagliptin provides synergistic benefits in metabolic and cardiovascular outcomes in patients aged 40-60 years.
