Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Doxycycline is a tetracycline-class small molecule antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. It is used to treat a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, acne, rosacea, malaria prophylaxis and treatment of rickettsial diseases. Doxycycline also has anti-inflammatory properties[1][2][4][5]. Valortim is a monoclonal antibody developed for the prevention or treatment of inhalational anthrax caused by *Bacillus anthracis*. It targets protective antigen (PA), a component of the anthrax toxin complex.
