Doxycycline hyclate + chitosan refers to a combination formulation in which the broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline hyclate is incorporated into a delivery system based on the biopolymer chitosan. Doxycycline acts as a bacteriostatic agent by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through disruption of tRNA and mRNA interactions at ribosomal sites. Chitosan serves as a biodegradable, biocompatible carrier that enables sustained or controlled release of the drug at target sites. This combination has been developed in various forms such as sponges, nanoparticles, hydrogels, and membranes for localized drug delivery—primarily for wound healing (e.g., diabetic foot ulcers), infection control (notably against *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Escherichia coli*), and potentially other applications requiring prolonged antimicrobial activity with reduced systemic side effects. The use of chitosan enhances moisture retention and provides mechanical support while facilitating optimal conditions for tissue regeneration[1][2][3][9].
