Overview

Doxylamine succinate + pyridoxine is an oral fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical comprising the antihistamine doxylamine succinate and pyridoxine, a vitamin B6 analog, used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy in women who do not respond to conservative management. The combination is marketed as delayed-release tablets such as Diclegis and Diclectin and as an extended-release formulation such as Bonjesta. Its therapeutic effect is generally attributed to the antiemetic antihistamine activity of doxylamine together with pyridoxine supplementation, although the precise mechanism by which the combination improves nausea and vomiting of pregnancy is not fully established. The product has been developed and marketed by Duchesnay and is a widely used first-line pharmacologic option for morning sickness.
