Overview

DP-QB-PSA-005 + DP-QB-STA-005 is an experimental combination of two bacteriophage cocktails being investigated for the treatment of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). DP-QB-PSA-005 is a cocktail of phages specifically targeting *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, while DP-QB-STA-005 is a cocktail targeting *Staphylococcus aureus*. These cocktails are designed for intra-articular administration as an adjunct to the Debridement Antibiotic and Implant Retention (DAIR) procedure and systemic antibiotic therapy. Bacteriophages are viruses that infect and lyse specific bacterial species, offering a mechanism to disrupt biofilms on prosthetic surfaces that are often recalcitrant to conventional antibiotics. The therapy is currently being evaluated in the DePHEAT-PJI clinical trial led by the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
