Overview
GW-2000-02 is a cannabinoid-based medicine developed by GW Pharmaceuticals (now Jazz Pharmaceuticals). It is a standardized plant-derived extract of *Cannabis sativa* L. containing delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) as the primary active constituent. Formulated as a sublingual spray, it was investigated for the treatment of chronic pain, including cancer-related pain and neuropathic pain resulting from brachial plexus injury. It acts primarily as an agonist at the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2. In clinical trials, it was often compared against Sativex (a 1:1 THC:CBD extract) and placebo to determine the relative contributions of THC and CBD to analgesia. Development of GW-2000-02 as a standalone product was largely discontinued in favor of the combination product Sativex.
