Overview
A generic oral contraceptive combination consisting of drospirenone, a fourth-generation progestin, and ethinyl estradiol, a synthetic estrogen. Drospirenone is a spironolactone analogue with antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic activity, which helps counteract estrogen-related water retention and acne. Ethinyl estradiol suppresses the release of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland. Together, they prevent ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to inhibit sperm penetration, and alter the endometrium to prevent implantation. This specific formulation (3 mg drospirenone / 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol) was developed by Bio-innova Co., Ltd and manufactured by Umeda Company Limited as a generic equivalent to Bayer's Yasmin.
