Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**DS-1040b + aspirin** is a combination of the investigational agent **DS-1040b** and the established pharmaceutical **aspirin**. DS-1040b is a small-molecule, low molecular weight inhibitor of the activated form of thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFIa), also known as carboxypeptidase U. Its mechanism enhances fibrinolysis, aiming to facilitate thrombus breakdown without increasing bleeding risk. Aspirin is a widely used antiplatelet agent that irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), thus reducing thromboxane A2-mediated platelet aggregation. The combination intends to improve outcomes in thromboembolic diseases, such as acute ischemic stroke or pulmonary embolism, by synergistically promoting both fibrinolysis and inhibition of platelet-driven thrombosis. DS-1040b is developed by Daiichi Sankyo for use in thromboembolic conditions, while aspirin is a generic agent with broad indications, typically manufactured by multiple companies.[1][3][4][5][6][7]
