DW1029M + linagliptin is a combination of a botanical drug candidate (DW1029M) and the pharmaceutical agent linagliptin. DW1029M is an investigational botanical extract composed of Morus alba Linne root bark and Puerariae radix, developed by Dong-Wha Pharmaceutical. It has been studied for its nephroprotective effects, particularly in diabetic nephropathy, through inhibition of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR), and transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) signaling. These mechanisms are implicated in the progression of diabetic complications such as nephropathy and retinopathy[6][8]. Linagliptin is an approved small molecule drug classified as a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor used to manage hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by inhibiting DPP-4, thereby increasing levels of incretin hormones like GLP‑1 and GIP, which enhance insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release[7][1]. The combination has been evaluated for pharmacokinetic interactions; coadministration was well tolerated with no clinically relevant effects on exposure to either agent[5].
