Overview

DW1029M + metformin is a combination of a botanical drug candidate (DW1029M) and the antidiabetic agent metformin. - **DW1029M** is a botanical extract composed of Morus alba linne root bark and Puerariae radix, developed by Dong-Wha Pharmaceutical. It is under investigation for nephroprotective effects in diabetic complications such as diabetic nephropathy. Mechanistically, DW1029M inhibits advanced glycation end products (AGEs) formation via Fe2+ chelation, rat lens aldose reductase activity (RLAR), and transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) signaling—all implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease[6][8]. - **Metformin** is an oral antihyperglycemic agent from the biguanide class used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It lowers blood glucose by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and increasing insulin sensitivity through enhanced peripheral uptake[1][4]. The combination has been studied for pharmacokinetic interactions; coadministration does not result in clinically significant changes in exposure or safety concerns[5].
