Overview

E-B-FAHF-2 is a botanical drug candidate developed by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for the treatment of mild-to-moderate Crohn's disease. It is a butanol-purified and concentrated formulation of the original Food Allergy Herbal Formula-2 (FAHF-2), which was derived from the traditional Chinese medicine formula Wu Mei Wan. The drug exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-17, IL-6, and IFN-γ, primarily through the blockage of NF-κB activation. By concentrating the active components, E-B-FAHF-2 significantly reduces the pill burden compared to its predecessor, aiming to improve patient compliance in chronic inflammatory bowel disease management. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety and early efficacy in adults who respond to budesonide induction.
