Overview

ebola zaire vaccine (live) is a live, replication-competent, recombinant viral vector vaccine designed to protect against Ebola virus disease caused by the Zaire ebolavirus. It utilizes a vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) backbone where the native envelope glycoprotein (G) gene has been deleted and replaced with the surface glycoprotein (GP) gene of the Zaire ebolavirus (Kikwit 1995 strain). Upon administration, the vaccine expresses the Zaire ebolavirus glycoprotein, which serves as the primary antigen to stimulate a protective neutralizing antibody and cell-mediated immune response. It is administered as a single intramuscular injection and is approved for use in individuals aged 12 months and older.
