Ebvax is a prophylactic nanoparticle vaccine candidate developed by Grid Biosciences to prevent Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and its associated pathologies. The vaccine is constructed using the proprietary Ferritin Vehicle platform, which involves fusing recombinant EBV envelope proteins—specifically those involved in viral entry into human cells—to ferritin. This fusion protein self-assembles into spherical nanoparticles that present viral antigens in a highly immunogenic, multivalent array designed to mimic the structure of the virus. This approach aims to elicit a more robust and durable neutralizing antibody response compared to traditional subunit vaccines. Ebvax is being developed to address a range of EBV-linked conditions, including infectious mononucleosis, multiple sclerosis, Burkitt lymphoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The technology incorporates EBV envelope protein patent rights licensed from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID/NIH).
