Overview

ECAR01 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Anhui Provincial Hospital that targets both B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) and CD19. This dual-targeting approach is designed to treat refractory autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Sjögren's syndrome, and systemic sclerosis. By targeting CD19, the therapy eliminates B cells, while targeting BCMA allows for the depletion of long-lived plasma cells, which are often responsible for the production of pathogenic autoantibodies. The treatment involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express these receptors before reinfusion, aiming for a deep and durable reset of the immune system.
