edaravone + borneol

Edaravone dextrorotatory camphor alcohol is a neuroprotective combination therapy consisting of edaravone and (+)-borneol. Edaravone is a free radical scavenger that protects neurons from oxidative stress by eliminating hydroxyl and peroxyl radicals. (+)-Borneol, also known as dextrorotatory camphor alcohol, serves as a synergist that enhances the penetration of edaravone across the blood-brain barrier and provides additional anti-inflammatory benefits by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-1beta. Developed by Simcere Pharmaceutical, the combination was approved in China in 2020 for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke to improve functional outcomes and reduce disability.
