edaravone + taurine

Edaravone + taurine is an investigational combination therapy consisting of two distinct small molecule agents: edaravone, a synthetic free radical scavenger and antioxidant, and taurine, a naturally occurring amino acid with antioxidant properties. Edaravone acts by scavenging free radicals and inhibiting oxidative stress—mechanisms implicated in neurodegenerative disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Taurine also possesses antioxidant and cytoprotective effects and is present in many tissues, relevant for neuroprotection. The combination has been studied in preclinical settings to assess safety and pharmacokinetics. Co-administration in animal models (rats) demonstrated no significant pharmacokinetic interactions between the two agents, indicating feasible combined use.
