Overview

Effaclar is a brand name for a range of over-the-counter and prescription-strength topical acne treatments developed by La Roche-Posay. The main active pharmaceutical ingredient in some Effaclar products is adapalene (a synthetic retinoid), which works by regulating skin cell turnover to prevent clogged pores and reduce acne lesions. Other formulations under the Effaclar brand include salicylic acid (a keratolytic agent that helps shed dead skin cells and reduce inflammation) and benzoyl peroxide (an antibacterial agent that reduces Propionibacterium acnes on the skin). These products are primarily indicated for mild to moderate acne vulgaris[1][2][3][4][7][8].
