Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Elasomeran (Spikevax, mRNA-1273) is a lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna for the prevention of COVID-19. It encodes the prefusion-stabilized spike (S) protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Upon intramuscular injection, the mRNA is taken up by host cells and translated into the spike protein, which then triggers an adaptive immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation. It was one of the first mRNA vaccines to receive emergency use authorization and subsequent full approval globally.
