Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron BA.4/5** is a Moderna bivalent lipid-nanoparticle-formulated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine containing **elasomeran**, which encodes the ancestral Wuhan-Hu-1 SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, and **davesomeran**, which encodes the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 spike protein. Following intramuscular administration, host cells translate the mRNAs and transiently express the encoded spike antigens, inducing neutralizing antibody and cellular immune responses directed against SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine was developed for active immunization to prevent COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 and was authorized in multiple jurisdictions as an Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted booster vaccine.
