Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AZD5004 + dapagliflozin (elecoglipron + dapagliflozin) is an investigational oral fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy being developed by AstraZeneca (in collaboration with Eccogene) for the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The combination consists of elecoglipron (AZD5004/ECC5004), an oral, once-daily, small-molecule glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, and dapagliflozin (Forxiga/Farxiga), an approved sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. Elecoglipron acts as a biased agonist at the GLP-1 receptor, promoting insulin secretion and weight loss without food or fluid restrictions, while dapagliflozin reduces renal glucose reabsorption to lower blood glucose and provide cardiorenal protection. The combination is currently in Phase III clinical trials (such as the ELUMINATE program) to evaluate its efficacy, safety, and tolerability in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
