Elesclomol (formerly known as STA-4783) is a small-molecule drug that induces oxidative stress and triggers apoptosis in cancer cells. It acts as a heat shock protein 70 inducer and has been shown to enhance the antitumor activity of taxanes such as paclitaxel in preclinical models. Paclitaxel is a mitotic inhibitor that works by preventing cancer cell division. The combination of elesclomol and paclitaxel has been evaluated in clinical trials for advanced solid tumors, including metastatic melanoma and non-small-cell lung cancer. In these studies, the combination demonstrated improved progression-free survival compared to paclitaxel alone and was generally well tolerated with toxicity profiles similar to single-agent paclitaxel[1][4][5][7].
