Overview

Elsulfavirine + atorvastatin is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) small molecule therapy being developed for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in patients with concurrent dyslipidemia. Elsulfavirine is a next-generation non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that acts as a prodrug for the active metabolite VM-1500A. It is characterized by a high genetic barrier to resistance and a long half-life, which supports simplified dosing regimens. Atorvastatin is a standard-of-care HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, thereby reducing cardiovascular risk. This combination aims to address the high prevalence of metabolic complications in the HIV population and improve patient adherence by reducing pill burden.
