eltrombopag + boceprevir

Eltrombopag + boceprevir is a combination of two oral small molecule drugs: **eltrombopag**, a thrombopoietin receptor agonist indicated for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura and chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, and **boceprevir**, an HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor indicated (in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 infection in adults. Eltrombopag raises platelet counts to allow initiation and maintenance of interferon-based therapy by stimulating the thrombopoietin receptor, thereby increasing platelet production. Boceprevir inhibits the HCV NS3/4A serine protease, essential for viral replication. This combination may be given in patients with HCV-related thrombocytopenia where both increased platelet counts and antiviral therapy are needed. Co-administration results in a modest increase in the maximum concentration of boceprevir, but no dose adjustment is required, and there are no clinically significant pharmacokinetic interactions between the agents[1][3][5].
