Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Empagliflozin + lobeglitazone is a fixed-dose combination of two oral antidiabetic agents used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by promoting urinary glucose excretion through inhibition of renal SGLT2 transporters in the proximal tubules[1][6]. It also provides cardiovascular and renal benefits, reducing risks associated with heart failure and kidney disease[1][6]. Lobeglitazone is a thiazolidinedione-class insulin sensitizer that acts as an agonist at peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), improving insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue and lowering blood sugar levels[4][5]. The combination targets complementary mechanisms to enhance glycemic control without significant pharmacokinetic interactions between the two drugs, making them suitable for coadministration in patients with type 2 diabetes[3][5].
