Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Piemonte association** is an investigational oral fixed-dose combination of **empagliflozin 25 mg** and **pioglitazone 30 mg** being developed by EMS for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Empagliflozin selectively inhibits sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 in the kidney, increasing urinary glucose excretion, while pioglitazone activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose utilization. The combination is being evaluated against each individual component in the randomized, double-blind, triple-dummy Phase 3 EMS1020 study, NCT05028140.
