Empagliflozin + potassium nitrate is a hypothetical or investigational combination drug consisting of empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and potassium nitrate, an inorganic salt that acts as a source of nitrate and potassium ions. Empagliflozin lowers blood glucose by inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion. It also provides cardiovascular and renal benefits in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and heart failure through mechanisms including natriuresis, reduction of preload/afterload, inhibition of Na+/H+ exchangers (NHE1/NHE3), anti-inflammatory effects, and possible modulation of myocardial remodeling[1][3][4]. Potassium nitrate is primarily used as a dietary supplement or for its vasodilatory effects via nitric oxide production; it may lower blood pressure by increasing nitric oxide bioavailability but is not an approved pharmaceutical for any major indication. There are no known approved products or clinical trials specifically combining empagliflozin with potassium nitrate.
