Overview

Empagliflozin + semaglutide is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in the management of type 2 diabetes and for weight loss. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion. It also provides cardiovascular and renal benefits independent of its glycemic effects[6][8]. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, slows gastric emptying, reduces appetite, and promotes weight loss[1][2]. Both drugs are approved individually for type 2 diabetes and have demonstrated favorable effects on blood pressure and body weight when used separately or together[4].
