Emtricitabine + cobicistat + darunavir + tenofovir alafenamide is an oral fixed-dose, single-tablet antiretroviral combination for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection. It combines darunavir, an HIV-1 protease inhibitor; cobicistat, a pharmacokinetic enhancer that inhibits CYP3A to increase darunavir exposure; and emtricitabine plus tenofovir alafenamide, two nucleoside or nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors that inhibit viral reverse transcriptase after intracellular activation. Marketed as Symtuza, it is a protease inhibitor-based complete regimen used in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 40 kg, including treatment-naive patients and certain virologically suppressed patients without known darunavir- or tenofovir-associated resistance substitutions.
