Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Enalapril + felodipine** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination formerly marketed as **Lexxel**. It combines enalapril maleate, a prodrug converted to the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor enalaprilat, with extended-release felodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker. ACE inhibition reduces angiotensin II formation and aldosterone secretion, while felodipine relaxes vascular smooth muscle by inhibiting L-type calcium-channel-mediated calcium influx. The complementary mechanisms lower peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. Lexxel was supplied as extended-release tablets containing 5 mg enalapril maleate with either 2.5 mg or 5 mg felodipine and was indicated for hypertension.
