enalapril + hydrochlorothiazide

Enalapril + hydrochlorothiazide is a fixed-dose combination oral medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It contains two active ingredients with complementary mechanisms of action. Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that lowers blood pressure by blocking the formation of angiotensin II, a substance that causes blood vessels to constrict; this results in vasodilation and reduced workload on the heart. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic ("water pill") that reduces blood pressure by increasing renal excretion of sodium and water, thereby decreasing plasma volume. The combination provides additive antihypertensive effects and may be used when monotherapy with either agent alone does not adequately control blood pressure[1][2][3][4][5][8].
