Overview

Enoxaparin + hydroxychloroquine is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used together, primarily studied in the context of COVID-19 treatment. Enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin that acts as an anticoagulant by inhibiting factor Xa and IIa (thrombin), thereby reducing blood clot formation. Hydroxychloroquine is an immunomodulatory agent with antimalarial properties, commonly used to treat autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis; it has been investigated for antiviral effects and immune modulation in viral infections like COVID-19. Clinical studies have evaluated this combination for efficacy and safety in hospitalized patients with COVID-19, but evidence suggests that while enoxaparin may reduce disease progression and complications related to coagulopathy, hydroxychloroquine does not provide additional therapeutic benefit over standard care[1][2]. Both drugs have distinct mechanisms of action—enoxaparin targets coagulation pathways, while hydroxychloroquine modulates immune responses.
