Entacapone + carbidopa is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used in the management of Parkinson's disease, particularly to address end-of-dose "wearing-off" symptoms. Entacapone is a selective and reversible inhibitor of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), which prevents the peripheral breakdown of levodopa, thereby increasing its availability and effectiveness in the brain. Carbidopa is an aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents the conversion of levodopa to dopamine outside the brain, allowing more levodopa to reach the central nervous system. This combination enhances dopaminergic stimulation and helps control motor symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease[1][6]. The primary indication for this drug combination is Parkinson's disease.
