Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baraclude + Viread is a combination antiviral regimen consisting of entecavir (Baraclude) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (Viread). Entecavir is a guanosine nucleoside analogue, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate. Both agents function as potent inhibitors of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) polymerase/reverse transcriptase enzyme. By acting as chain terminators during viral DNA synthesis, they effectively suppress HBV replication. This combination is primarily utilized in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B, particularly in patients who have developed resistance to other therapies (such as lamivudine) or exhibit a partial virologic response to rescue therapy.
