EPCAM CAR-T (specifically the candidate IMC-001) is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target the Epithelial Cell Adhesion Molecule (EpCAM). EpCAM is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is highly expressed in various epithelial carcinomas, including gastric, colorectal, liver, and pancreatic cancers, while showing limited expression in normal tissues, making it a suitable target for immunotherapy. The treatment involves isolating a patient's T cells, genetically engineering them to express a CAR specific for EpCAM, and re-infusing them into the patient to induce a targeted anti-tumor immune response. Developed by Zhejiang University, this therapy is being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for the treatment of advanced digestive system malignancies.
