Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Epigallocatechin-gallate + resveratrol is a combination of two natural polyphenolic compounds commonly found in green tea (epigallocatechin gallate, EGCG) and grapes/red wine (resveratrol). This combination has been studied for its potential synergistic effects in various health contexts. Mechanistically, the combination has demonstrated enhanced pro-apoptotic and anti-tumor activity compared to either agent alone, particularly through inhibition of the AKT-mTOR signaling pathway. In preclinical models of head and neck cancer, this synergy results in increased apoptosis and significant tumor growth inhibition[1][6]. In metabolic studies involving overweight or obese humans, supplementation with both agents increased mitochondrial capacity and fat oxidation but did not significantly improve insulin sensitivity over 12 weeks[3][9]. Both compounds are also known for their antioxidant properties and have been investigated for roles in chemoprevention, metabolic modulation, and lipid metabolism.
