Drug intelligence / Profile preview
epinephrine (Amphastar France Pharmaceuticals) is a proprietary intranasal formulation of the non-selective adrenergic agonist epinephrine, currently in preclinical development for the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis and severe allergic reactions. As a small molecule, epinephrine acts on alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors to counteract the systemic effects of type 1 hypersensitivity. Its mechanism involves alpha-1 receptor-mediated vasoconstriction to increase peripheral vascular resistance and reduce mucosal edema, and beta-2 receptor-mediated bronchodilation to alleviate respiratory distress. This intranasal delivery system is designed to provide a needle-free, non-invasive alternative to traditional intramuscular autoinjectors, potentially improving ease of use and speed of administration in emergency settings.
