Overview

epinephrine + normal saline is a nebulized combination treatment consisting of L-epinephrine (1:1,000) and 0.9% normal saline. In the context of clinical research led by Dr. Aayush Khanal at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, this combination served as the control arm in a Phase 4 randomized, double-blind trial (NCT01276821) for the treatment of mild to moderately severe viral bronchiolitis in infants. Epinephrine acts as a non-selective adrenergic agonist, providing bronchodilation through beta-2 receptors and reducing mucosal edema through alpha-adrenergic-mediated vasoconstriction. Normal saline acts as an isotonic vehicle for the delivery of the medication via nebulization.
