Overview

This is not a formulated combination drug product but rather represents a pharmacological interaction. Epinephrine is a catecholamine that stimulates alpha and beta adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction, increased heart rate, and other sympathomimetic effects. Phentolamine is a non-selective alpha-adrenergic antagonist that blocks the effects of epinephrine, particularly at alpha receptors. Phentolamine is clinically used to reverse the vasoconstriction caused by epinephrine, especially in cases of accidental injection of epinephrine into digits or other areas with terminal arteries.
