Overview

A combination therapy consisting of epirubicin, an anthracycline chemotherapy agent, and erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone that stimulates red blood cell production. Epirubicin works by intercalating between DNA base pairs, inhibiting topoisomerase II activity, and interfering with DNA replication and transcription, which damages cancer cells and prevents them from dividing or growing. Erythropoietin is administered alongside epirubicin-containing chemotherapy regimens to prevent or treat chemotherapy-induced anemia by stimulating the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow.
