Overview
Epirubicin + etoposide is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic agents, epirubicin and etoposide. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA, inhibiting topoisomerase II and preventing DNA replication and transcription. Etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA strand breaks by stabilizing the enzyme-DNA complex, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of advanced or unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), where it has demonstrated activity with manageable toxicity profiles[1][3]. The regimen may also be referred to as "EE" in clinical literature.
