Overview

Epirubicin + medroxyprogesterone acetate is a combination therapy consisting of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in the treatment of advanced or hormone-resistant prostate cancer. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic and antineoplastic agent, structurally related to doxorubicin, that works by intercalating DNA strands and inhibiting topoisomerase II, leading to inhibition of DNA replication and cell death. Medroxyprogesterone acetate is a synthetic progestin with anti-gonadotropic properties; it acts on progesterone receptors to modulate hormonal pathways and can exert antiproliferative effects on certain hormone-sensitive tumors. This combination has been studied as second-line therapy for patients with advanced prostatic cancer, particularly those with symptomatic bone involvement[1][2]. The regimen aims to leverage both cytotoxic (epirubicin) and hormonal (medroxyprogesterone acetate) mechanisms for improved disease control.
