Overview

Epirubicin + oxaliplatin is a combination of two chemotherapeutic agents used primarily in the treatment of advanced or metastatic gastric (stomach), oesophageal, and gastroesophageal junction cancers. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that works by intercalating DNA strands, thereby inhibiting DNA and RNA synthesis and leading to cell death. Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms crosslinks within DNA, disrupting replication and transcription processes, which also results in cancer cell death. This combination may be administered as part of multi-drug regimens (such as EOF or EOX) but can also be considered as a doublet regimen for patients who cannot tolerate triplet therapy[1][6]. Both drugs are given intravenously.
