Overview

This is a **combination chemotherapy regimen** consisting of **epirubicin** (an anthracycline antibiotic), **paclitaxel** (a taxane antineoplastic agent), and **filgrastim** (a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, G-CSF). - **Epirubicin** works primarily by intercalating DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, resulting in the inhibition of DNA replication and transcription, leading to tumor cell death. - **Paclitaxel** stabilizes microtubules and inhibits their depolymerization, thereby disrupting cell division and promoting apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. - **Filgrastim** is used as supportive care to stimulate the bone marrow to produce neutrophils, reducing the duration and severity of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. This combination has been studied mainly in breast and ovarian cancer, often in patients with resistance to prior chemotherapy. The inclusion of filgrastim enables higher doses or dose intensity of the cytotoxic agents by mitigating hematologic toxicity, especially neutropenia[1][3][5].
