Overview

Epirubicin + prednisolone is a combination regimen used in the treatment of advanced breast cancer and has also been studied in other cancers. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that acts as a topoisomerase II inhibitor, interfering with DNA synthesis and function, leading to cytotoxicity in rapidly dividing cells. Prednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties; it can induce apoptosis in certain cancer cells and modulate immune responses. This combination has been evaluated for efficacy and toxicity, particularly in advanced breast cancer, where it demonstrated higher response rates at higher epirubicin doses but also increased toxicity[1]. The regimen may be used as part of multi-agent chemotherapy protocols.
