Overview

Epirubicin + taxane refers to a combination chemotherapy regimen commonly used in the treatment of breast cancer, particularly advanced or metastatic cases. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antineoplastic agent that exerts its effect primarily by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, leading to inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis and ultimately cell death[5][8]. Taxanes (such as paclitaxel or docetaxel) are a class of chemotherapeutic agents that stabilize microtubules, preventing their depolymerization and thereby disrupting mitosis[6]. The combination aims to enhance antitumor efficacy while minimizing overlapping toxicities; notably, epirubicin is less cardiotoxic than doxorubicin when combined with taxanes[2][3]. This regimen has demonstrated high response rates in clinical trials for breast cancer with manageable toxicity profiles.
