EpCAM is a 40 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein that is highly expressed in various carcinomas but has limited expression in normal epithelial tissues, making it an attractive target for cancer immunotherapy. This specific peptide is an HLA-A*0201-restricted epitope, meaning it can be presented by MHC class I molecules to activate cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). In clinical and preclinical settings, it is typically used as a cancer vaccine component, often loaded onto dendritic cells or administered with adjuvants, to induce a specific immune response against EpCAM-positive tumor cells in indications such as prostate, colorectal, and breast cancers.
