Overview

**epoetin alfa + epoetin beta** is a combination of two recombinant human erythropoietin analogs—**epoetin alfa** and **epoetin beta**. Both are erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) that act as synthetic versions of human erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone primarily produced by the kidneys. These drugs stimulate erythropoiesis by promoting the proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, increasing red blood cell production. Both are used mainly to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease, particularly in patients undergoing hemodialysis. They act on the erythropoietin receptor on progenitor cells, leading to increased hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. Epoetin alfa and beta are considered largely interchangeable in clinical efficacy and safety[1][3][4].
